About the Role

As the chief academic officer and representative of the Department of English and Technical Communication, this position reports to the Vice Provost and Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education. The Chair leads the Department by promoting excellence in teaching, research, and service, and advocating for the department's mission to the University administration and external entities.

Responsibilities include mentoring faculty and staff towards successful advancement, coordinating course scheduling and advising responsibilities, and managing the budget while ensuring sound fiscal policies. The Chair also builds relationships with other campus units and leaders, develops and works towards departmental goals, and organizes department meetings and performance evaluations. Additionally, the Chair assists with faculty recruitment and development, liaises with students on petitions, degree applications, and complaints, and supervises student recruitment and retention.

Maintaining a respectful and inclusive work environment, developing and distributing departmental policies and procedures, and completing other duties as assigned by the CASE Dean, Provost, and Chancellor are also key aspects of the role.
